International Business Learning Games Conference
Last year I was invited by a friend to attend the International Business Learning Games Competition in Dublin, where she was a judge. I try to go to many kinds of games related events because, not only I love games, I think my knowledge about games should expand the most I can to more than just knowing how to develop them.
The event was very interesting and, after having several conversations with the organisers, they decided to invite me as a judge for this year’s event. And since we spoke so highly about our country (Portugal) and hometown (Lisbon), and since the Web Summit also started happening there, they decided that this year Lisbon was a great place for it to happen!
I saw this as an opportunity to also improve, not only my educational games skills, but also my communication skills. So I suggested I would also give a talk about a subject that I find fascinating: knowledge assessment in educational games. One of those things that I find scary but I just decide to dive into. Let the “future Fausto” deal with it!
I have to say it all went really well. The games I had to judge were indeed interesting! The other judges are influential people in the educational games scene, which means you can learn a great deal with them! And my talk went really well. I felt relaxed, my thought were flowing, and I got general good feedback from it. I still know my limitations so I see this as a baseline to improve.
If you want to know more information about the event just follow the International Business Learning Conference page. You can see the info about this year’s event and already some about the 2018 one, which will be in Lisbon again and I’ll be one of the judges again.
I also prepared a readable version of my presentation (since most was just titles to cue me to talk) and you can see it here: Assessment in Educational Games without the use of Quizzes. Any suggestions or corrections are more than welcome!
